About ME

SHORT VERSION

I'm a writer.

LONG VERSION

I like potato salad.

I'm a twin. And yes, my brother is the smarter, better-looking, more successful one.

I grew up living in Alaska and Montana, which means I learned fairly quickly how to fish, stay alive around hungry bears, and to repair vehicles without the help of AAA.

I attended Montana State University in Bozeman for what I thought would be a career in Industrial Engineering. Then Graphic Design. Then Architecture.

My favorite class proved to be "Quarter Beers" at the Rocking R Bar.

Eventually, I wised up--working multiple jobs while putting yourself through school will do that--and decided to reduce my social activities while simultaneously increasing my studying.

I transferred to the University of Oregon for a degree in Journalism/Advertising with an English minor.

Finished with Eugene and trips to Goodwill, I moved to Portland where I honed my writing skills working for a few ad agencies. After proving I wasn't a complete hack, I accepted a gig in Austin, TX with GSD&M, lured there to work on Southwest Airlines, Rolling Stone Magazine, PGA Tour and eventually, U.S. Air Force, among others.

After nearly a decade of working in the Live Music Capital of the World and perfecting my use of words like "Y'all" (even when there was only one person in the room) and "Holler", I happily returned to the land of foot-long banana slugs and overly hopped IPAs.

Currently, I spend my days working with digital shops and brands here in Portland and across the country. The names would include Razorfish, Liquid, Blast Radius, Roundhouse, Pollinate, KEEN, adidas. I've done short gigs, long contracts, and partnerships on location with shops like JWT and Saatchi & Saatchi/New York, that sorta stuff.

My work has been featured in One Show, Communication Arts Advertising Annuals and Interactive Annuals, International Andy's, FWA Site of the Day, AdCritic Interactive, CA Site of the Week, Adweek, etc.

I believe it's all about the big idea. It doesn't matter if you're working on social, video, a website, print, digital or the side of a freshly shaved pig, without a big idea you have nothing.

I like old buildings.
